The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu- Adjare, yesterday commiserated with the family of the late Jacob Otanka Obetsebi- Lamptey on the loss of their son.
She was accompanied by officials from the ministry and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare described the late Obetsebi-Lamptey, who also served as Minister of Tourism and the Modernisation of the Capital City under the Kufour Administration, as a personality who had brought a lot of changes to the ministry.
“You have written your name in the history of Ghana’s tourism. Your works are there for all to see. May the Good Lord give you a perfect sleep,” Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare said when she signed the book of condolence.
Asked what she specially remembered the former Tourism Minister for, she said Obetsebi-Lamptey’s introduction of the paragliding festival and the Joseph Project, which she likened to PANAFEST, and said it was worthy of remembrance.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said her prayer and thoughts were with the bereaved family and friends, and assured that the ministry would be at the funeral which was scheduled forApril 21.
The former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party died on March 11, at a hospital in London, after a short illness.
Mr. Lamptey, born on February 4, 1946, was an astute politician and adviser to former President Kufour.
His father, the late Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, was a member of the ‘Big Six’ who fought for Ghana’s independence.
Like his father, Jacob was a founding member of the NPP and was credited with bringing the NPP to power in the year 2000, when he acted as the Campaign Manager to the then candidate, John Agyekum Kufour.
