Govt Builds New Road For Rawlings

As some people say, 'man pass man'! Even as former President John Agyekum Kufuor is being denied an office in which to work and vehicles to run his office, the Atta Mills Administration has blown tens of thousands of Ghana Cedis on a swanking new road for former President Rawlings! The road, about two hundred meters long, runs in front of the private mansion of former President Rawlings near Nkrumah Block Factory at Agyiringano in Accra. So far, his neighbours and other house owners in the area, who did not benefit from the governmental largesse because their portions of the same road before and after the Rawlings mansion was ignored, complained bitterly yesterday when the Searchlight visited the area. "It is very interesting that they have constructed a brand new road in front of the former President's residence, but have ignored our end and the other end," one local resident told the Searchlight newspaper. A visit to the place yesterday by reporters from this newspaper revealed a strange situation. We noticed that it is only the two hundred meters of road in front of the former President's residence that was resurfaced and tarred, whilst both ends of the newly tarred portions remained in the deplorable state they used to be before the election. Residents told this newspaper that the surfacing and tarring of the road in front of the former President's private residence took place recently. "Soon after the elections they brought equipments here and started renovating the road. We thought that finally they were going to tar the road from American House at East Legon to this area, but all they ended up doing was renovate the portion in front of the former President's residence. Maybe he is better than the rest of us tax payers" another local resident told this newspaper. But whilst the government is blowing large sums of monies for the comfort and edification of former President Rawlings, the same cannot be said for the only other living president of our Republic. Checks conducted by the searchlight newspaper yesterday revealed that months after former President John Agyekum was kicked out of his office by President John Evans Atta Mills, he is still waiting to be settled in another office. Again, the vehicles that were rudely taken away from him are also yet to be replaced. "Nothing has happened on both fronts," Mr. Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson to former President Kufuor, told the Seachlight.
