Tell Zanetor She Is Corrupt NDC Foot Soldiers Dares Rawlings

Some aggrieved foot soldiers of the ruling NDC in the Klottey Korle constituency have dared former President and NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings to expose his own daughter for corruption if he wants to be taken seriously.

According to them, former President Rawlings has in the past tried to expose and accuse so many people of corruption in Ghana, and should therefore be bold to expose corruption at his own door steps or remain silent forever.

They were speaking to court reporters Monday after the high court hearing the case between Nii Armah Ashietey  v. Zanetor Rawlings postponed a scheduled hearing pending an April 26 decision of the supreme court in an instant application filed by lawyers of Zanetor Rawlings to overrule a previous decision of the high court against her previous application to have the case against her struck out.

Zanetor Rawlings has been embattled in court since her election in November 2015 as NDC parliamentary candidate of the Klottey Korle constituency. According to incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashietey who is currently in court seeking the annulment of her election, Zanetor Rawlings should not have been allowed to contest the parliamentary primaries because she was not a registered voter as at that time.

The electoral commission has since confirmed that indeed, Zanetor Rawlings is not a registered voter according to their records.

Lawyers and supporters of Zanetor Rawlings have however insisted that Zanetor will be qualified once she registers later this month as a voter. They argue that Zanetor Rawlings has only declared an intention to run for parliament until the NDC party presents her as a candidate to the EC.

However, on March 22, a high court judge Ackah- Boafo ruled that Zanetor Rawlings has gone beyond declaring an intention to be candidate since her election has radically changed her position. Her instant application to have the case against her struck out was therefore dismissed.

Lawyers for Zanetor Rawlings have since refused to give up on their argument. They proceeded to file another application at the Supreme Court which claims that the ruling of high court judge Ackah – Boafo against her amounts to an ‘error in law’ and prayed the Supreme Court to set aside that ruling. April 26 has been set for hearing of the Supreme Court application.

But even before the Supreme Court hearing, some supporters of the NDC in the Klottey Korle constituency believe that this case boarders on corruption and have called on former President Rawlings, father of Zanetor Rawlings and NDC founder to intervene to save the NDC and himself.

‘Rawlings has been calling so many people corrupt. He even called President Kuffuor Atta Ayie why? Because he said Kufuor is a corrupt person. And now the thing is at your own door steps in your own house but he cannot come out to tell his daughter that she is not qualified to run for parliament. Why? Rawlings is not Rawlings If we don’t follow  him, So we are telling Rawlings to come out and tell the truth that look my daughter is not qualified instead of sitting down and allowing your daughter to mess up the NDC’, said one fuming opponent of Zanetor’s candidature.

‘Let me tell you, Rawlings and his wife and his daughter want to collapse NDC. They have an agenda because he has been calling John Mahama and Atta Mills names.’

He continued. ‘Even John Mahama must too must come into this thing because he is going to lose in Klottey Korle because we the youth are not going to vote for just anybody. I am not a fool to vote for someone who has never voted before’.

Another NDC supporter calling himself Basty said, ‘I also blame the national executive of NDC for qualifying this girl to run for election when they know that she has never voted before. Now they have divided the party into two’.

He added, ‘if you don’t have voters ID card and you have never voted for somebody before, how do you expect somebody to vote for you? That is why we say the national executives have failed’.

He also cannot understand why Rawlings cannot speak the truth in this matter.

‘We have protected Rawlings. Without us Rawlings is not anybody. When Kufuor came, he wanted to take Rawlings to court and we didn’t agree, we covered him and today look at what his daughter is doing? Trying to destroy what we have toiled to build whiles Rawlings is keeping quite’.

The substantive case of Nii Armah Ashietey V. Zanetor Rawlings/NDC will be continued in the high court after the April 26 decision of the Supreme Court on the instant application filed by her lawyers on behalf of Zanetor Rawlings.

Meanwhile, Zanetor Rawlings is pleading with the Supreme Court to allow her register as a voter when the EC opens the register for limited registration on April 28 2016.
