Supt. Cephas Arthur, the Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Police Service, has pledged that the Police Administration will discharge its duties neutrally and impartially during the upcoming general elections.
“The Police would endeavour to remain neutral and impartial and enforce the law to the letter without fear or favour,” he stressed.
Supt. Arthur, in an interview with The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said the police would treat all political parties equally during the polls.
He said the police would consider the security concerns of the various political parties, following a series of dialogue between some parties and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. John Kudalor.
Supt. Arthur said that police were ready for the upcoming elections and gave the assurance that they would help ensure peace at the polls.
He stated that the police were being trained in general conduct and media relations, among others.
Supt. Arthur said the Police Administration had launched a national security task force, made up of all the security agencies, to ensure peaceful elections.
He said the task force involves sub committees on communication and media, transportation and protection of ballot boxes, finance, investigations, legal and prosecution among.
Supt. Arthur asked the youth not to create confusion during the elections, cautioning that the police would arrest and prosecute trouble makers.
