Atik Mohammed says the Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Rev. Samuel Nii Nmai Ollenu should "shut up" on the leaked examination papers.

Some exam papers in this year's West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) leaked before the students were due to write the exams.

The leaked exam papers were Social Studies, Integrated Science, Physics practical and Oral English.

A similar incident happened last year where some WASSCE and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers leaked on social media.

Though five BECE papers including Religious and Moral Education 2, Science 2, Social Studies 2, English Language 2 and Mathematics 2 were cancelled due to the leakage; WAEC has once again failed to conceal this year's papers.

Addressing the issue, the WAEC says it will not cancel examination papers that have leaked in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Thursday edition of the Daily Graphic reported.

Making his submissions on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed was disgusted by the persistent leakage of exam papers from the WAEC.

According to him, he found it sickening that students now seek after leaked papers instead of studying hard to write their exams.

Atik Mohammed further ascribed the reliance of students on leaked papers to a number of factors; one of which he said is because some parents force their wards to pursue courses they are not passionate about.

He added that the culture of leaked papers have been prevalent also because of the changing trends in Ghana's education system.

"...it’s a problem. We need to have a whole different orientation about education.”

Expounding further, Atik Mohammed blamed the Head of WAEC for this year's leakage and so subtly asked for him to be sanctioned.

He also urged the WAEC Boss to keep silent on the issues and stop stirring controversies by his making comments.

“He has failed to do that which he was expected to do, safeguard the integrity, make sure that the exams that the children are writing; at the end of the day they can value the certificate wherever they go. He has failed. And the least he could have done was to shut up but to start providing justification was unacceptable.”
