Dep Minister Indicts KufuorHe Was Active Participant In Fleecing State

There is actually no basis for comparison when it comes to the NPP and the NDC; so Mr Kufuor is welcome to share his thoughts and views on Ghanaian affairs but by all means, he must refrain from speaking in ways that suggests that his was a successful government or that we are unaware of what transferred during his tenure…” said the deputy Minister of Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The Deputy Minister was reacting to an accusation from former President John Agyekum Kufuor that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) spent the money meant for developmental projects in the Volta Region.

The furore over which party had performed better for the people of the Volta Region was triggered by President John Dramani Mahama, who indicted the New Patriotic Party for not develping the region during the eight year rule of then President Kufuor.

That claim did not sit well with the former president.

Mr. Kufour, at his residence last week, accused the president John Mahama of dishonesty. He accused the NDC of squandering money meant for the development of the Volta Region particularly in their handling of the Keta Sea Defense Project.

Contrary to what the president said, Mr Kufuor insisted that it was during his tenure that the sea defence wall was finally constructed.

They claim we did nothing in the Volta Region. Let’s start from Keta. The money they acquired for the sea defense wall, they squandered it. It was during my tenure that we constructed the wall” he said.

But speaking to the issue on Saturday’s edition of Radio Gold, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said “it is not true that anybody squandered that money”.

According to him, “records show that it is an NDC project; it was financed and started by former President Rawlings

His intervention in the discourse with the view to defend his record has opened up a number of issues…the truth is that he presided over an administration that did enormous damage to the fortunes of this country; and it was not just that he presided over it; and I regret to say this, he was an active participant in depriving this country of precious resources; indeed he was an active participant in the abuse of resources of the state entrusted into his care as President…

…President John Agyekum himself inappropriately acquired government land; in Kumasi…when you engage in this kind of conduct as President, and the country did not collapse, that same country will not collapse under the leadership of President Mahama who do not go near state lands.

...There is actually no basis for comparison when it comes to the NPP and the NDC; so Mr Kufuor is welcome to share his thoughts and views on Ghanaian affairs but by all means, he must refrain from speaking in ways that suggests that his was a successful government or that we are unaware of what transferred during his tenure…
