Ursula Begs Resigned Ablekuma Executives

Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful who was re-elected after a controversial election is passionately appealing to aggrieved members to rescind their decision to resign from the NPP.

The election which was postponed because of an injunction was re-run over the weekend amidst tension sparked by suspicion that national executives with the support of their flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo were manipulating the electoral register in favour of the incumbent.

This compelled some constituency executives to announce their decision to resign but the outspoken NPP MP wants them back.

The members numbering about fifteen have therefore resigned alleging fraud at the polls because two registers were used for the elections. They also cited the lack of internal democracy in the party and the attempt by Akufo Addo to impose Madam Ursula on the constituency.

The first vice chairman of the party in the constituency is reported to have said that the party is not perturbed by the resignations since those who have resigned were not elected members. The statement further angered the aggrieved members.

“We are tired of this Ursula nonsense, why is she being imposed on us, is that what we voted for Nana Addo to come and do to us, we will not accept the outcome of the results, Nana Ado will lose the elections, if Nana Ado claims the national voters register is bloated and they have formed Let My Vote Count to petition the electoral commission to change the voters register how can you repeat the same thing at Ablekuma West, John Mahama don’t worry you have won the elections”

But Madam Ursula NPP will win the general elections at all cost and it is incumbent on all those who have struggled for the party to stay together to enjoy the victory party and the Investiture of Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo come January 7 2017.

The NPP has debunked claims that two albums were used in the elections. The party in a statement clarified that the choice of a register was made by the National Executive Committee on 30th March 2016.

And that two albums were merged into only ONE (1) for the election. The party adds that it is therefore completely erroneous as some seek to suggest after the merger, that two separate albums existed for the election”.

Meanwhile Madam Ursula has declined public comment on the incident over the weekend. She explained to Accra based Kasapafm that the matter is being handled by NPP’s leadership. She rather appealed to those aggrieved to put the past behind and join forces for the bigger battle ahead- beat the NDC.

“I remember a similar problem in 2008, we focused on fighting amongst ourselves and so we lost the seat to the NDC. We shouldn’t allow the same to happen this time round. Please let’s focus on the bigger task, not for Ursula but for the NPP. Nana Akufo Addo will be sworn in come January 2017, Ursula will also be sworn in come January 7 2017, I don’t want a situation where some of you won’t be able to join the celebration because you decided to leave the party” she told Fiifi Banson on ANOPA KASAPA, the station’s breakfast show.

Madam Owusu-Ekuful polled 554 votes, while her contender Robert Kwesi Nicol garnered 317 in a delayed primary held at the Dansoman Police station polling center in Accra. The third contender, one Theophilus Tetteh, pulled out of the race at the last hour because according to him, he still had issues with the register.
