GBC Staff Accuse Ampem Darko Of Misappropriating Funds

Some management staff of the State Broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation are alleging that the Director General, Mr. William Ampem Darko has sunk about GH35, 000.00 of the Corporations funds into executing a court case brought against his predecessor, Eva Lokko by the stations union chairman, Louis Darko. The group, led by Mr. Mensah Nyargko, Head of publication at GBC, says the case which has been before court since 2007 has been bank rolled by the station with the authorization of the Director General. Mr. William Ampem Darko is already burdened with several consistent failures by the national broadcaster to telecast live some important national events including President John Mills address to the 64th UN General Assembly in New York, poor audio visuals of Barack Obamas visit to Ghana which the station beamed to the international media as well as the stations failure to telecast the Black Stars Japan friendly. This latest allegation is bound to worsen the lots of the Director General who already has a lot to deal with on his plate. The Government on Friday morning summoned him to a meeting to explain why GTV failed to broadcast President Mills address to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 23. The Information machinery of government is worried about the increasing spate of blunders that have characterized the coverage of major national events by GBC. In an earlier interview with Citi News, a Deputy Information Minister, James Agyenim Boateng expressed governments displeasure with the management of GBC and said that his outfit was going to demand answers from them at Fridays meeting. In an interview, Head of publications at the GBC, Mensah Nyarko said the new Board of GBC under Prof J.K Aheto would do everything possible to clear the rot in the system.
