NPP Group Jabs Minister

A pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) grouping, the Patriotic Movement For Victory (PMV), has described the remarks by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku as scandalous, calling on him to apologize to Muslims.

It would be recalled that the minister a few days ago interacted with Imams, chiefs and NDC’s party executives in the Asunafo South constituency following which he reportedly said on Atinka FM that all Muslims that align themselves to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are fake.

He is said to have supported his misinterpretation of the Quran by quoting Surah 105 as basis for his position.

“But we state on authority that there is nowhere in the Qur’an supporting his concoction and shallow understanding of the Holy Qur’an,” he said.

According to the group, “it is worrying that a minister would spew such lies and misinterpretation of a verse just to paint the New Patriotic Party as a (Yemen army) of our time going to destroy what? And call the Muslims in that (army) party fake?”

“The PMV takes serious exception to the remarks and demands an apology from the minister,” adding that “if the minister and his likes do not like to read or listen as suggested by Alhaji Bawumia, we say this is the Qur’an and it cannot be misinterpreted or be drawn into cheap politics.”

The group called on all Ghanaian Muslims to join hands in condemning such utterances “as we get closer to elections.”

The statement was signed on behalf of the group by Tawfik Prah, Coordinator, Sa’ad Mohammed Misri, spokesperson and Atika Ali, member.
