NDC Demands Action On Arrested NPP Boys

THE RULING National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deleting its members’ names from the voters’ register. The party has therefore vowed to push for the prosecution of two people arrested in connection with the alleged act.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, said the NPP had been going round validating the national voters’ register on their own, describing this as a recipe for chaos. Koku Anyidoho said this during a press conference in Kumasi yesterday.

According to him, the two suspects, believed to be New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, are Atta Marfo and Frank Owusu Yeboah.

However, the NPP says the allegation defies common sense.

According to the main opposition party, such wild allegations will only come from someone with a diabolical agenda ahead of the crucial general election in November.

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Samuel Pyne, made the comment on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme yesterday.

Anyidoho had claimed that the two NPP boys were apprehended by the Suame police at Suame in Kumasi holding a copy of the national voters’ register and marking names believed to be those of NDC members as dead people so that their names would be expunged from the register.

He stated that the action of the two was illegal and had the potential of creating security problems, adding that the arrest of the two people, who had since been transferred to the central police station in Kumasi, was commendable.

The NDC top official stated that the ruling political party, as a major stakeholder in the upcoming elections, would make sure that the two people were processed for court and punished accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.

NDC gurus like Yaw Obimpeh, the Ashanti regional chairman, Raymond Tandoh, the regional scribe and Francis Dodovi, an outspoken member of the party in Kumasi, were present at the mammoth press conference held at the NDC regional office.

Unfounded Accusation

According to him, the NPP had hatched a diabolical and illegal plan to make sure that the Electoral Commission (EC) deleted names of known NDC people in the Ashanti Region from the electoral roll, in a desperate move to avoid imminent electoral defeat.

He mentioned Yasmin Salifu and Asoley Nyaaba as some of the NDC members who were marked by the two arrested men as dead people at Suame on April 11, when they were conducting their own validation exercise without the consent of the EC.

Koku Anyidoho accused the Minority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the NPP MP for Suame, and Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, of having a hand in the alleged illegal act.

“Information available to us indicates that Wontumi and Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu went to the police station to secure bail for the two men after their arrest, an indication that they sent the two men to illegally mark some people in the register as dead people,” he stated.
