The Volta Region, will from tomorrow Tuesday 16, 2016, hosts the President, as part of his “accounting to the people tour”, which started some two weeks ago.

President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to spend three days in the region, from Tuesday 19 to Thursday21, after which he would be back to Accra to prepare for the next region.

The president, while in the region will cut-sod for new projects, inspects on-going ones, and commission completed ones.

He would be accompanied by ministers, regional party executives, Members of Parliament (MP) of the governing party in the region, appointees of his government, including district and municipal chief executives in the region, dubbed the “World Bank” as a result of the party’s electoral fortunes.

According to a programme of activities issued by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Volta Regional Secretary, Simon Amegashie-Viglo, President Mahama, will on Tuesday inaugurate a 46km Eastern Corridor Road from Dodo Pepesu-Nkwanta at Pepesu at 11:00am.

The Volta Regional tour, comes days after the president toured the Eastern Region ,after a similar one in the Western Region, where he was ambushed and mobbed by well-wishers.

President Mahama as part of his tour in the Eastern Region, strayed in into the Volta Region to commission a ferry and water taxi to replace the 10 year-old damaged ferry for the people of Kpando-Torkor.

In the Eastern Region, he inspected among others, works on the Kwahu East District Hospital at Abetifi, inaugurated 2 new pontoons for the people of Agodeke, and inspected the Kwahu Kotoso Community Water Project, among others.

Volta Region, has been the centre of arguments on which of the two main political parties; NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has better developed the region.

The argument came on the heels of a response by the president to accusation by the NPP that, despite the region being the “World Bank” of the governing party; the NDC, has done nothing substantial for the people.
