Military personnel in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region on Saturday stormed a funeral ground and seized about 27 shot guns from some people.
Three of the military personnel sustained injures when one of the seized guns exploded.
Two persons arrested in connection with the case have been granted police inquiry bail pending further investigations into the matter.
The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Issah Zakaria, in a telephone interview confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.
The MCE told the paper that the seized guns were in the custody of the Yendi police, pending further investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, in an interview with The Ghanaian Times said on Saturday, the security personnel heard gunshots at the particular location in the Yendi town, so the military went there.
According to the PRO, when the military got to the scene they saw a group of people firing locally manufactured guns which they seized.
He stated that on their way to the police station one of the guns blasted and injured three military personnel, who were currently receiving treatment in the Yendi hospital.
ASP Tetteh said that the bam on the handling of weapon of any type in the entire Yendi enclave was still enforced.
An eyewitness told The Ghanaian Times the action of security personnel nearly sparked trouble in the area as the people tried to resist arrest.
He said the military ordered all at the funeral ground to lie on the bare floor which some of them attempted to disobey.
