Ali Zakari, 39, a notorious drug peddler who has been on the wanted list of the Ashaiman police has been smoked out of his hideout at Asensu Bar. Ali was busted last Thursday when the Ashaiman District Police carried out a swoop of some criminal dens at the Asensu Bar.
The notorious Ashaiman drug peddler, who is noted for trading in toffees, laced with marijuana, popularly called ‘wee’, was arrested with the substances, which had been displayed for sale at his hideout. Emmanuel Ekuadzi, 27, and Abraham Sackey, 23, two of Ali’s customers, were caught red handed, busily smoking the substances believed to be ‘wee’.
The police swoop was led by the Ashaiman District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Seth Tay, and during the operation, 75 pieces of ‘wee’ toffees and about 241 wrapped substances suspected to be Indian hemp, in a polythene bag, were also recovered. Several numbers of unserviceable mobile phones were also found on Emmanuel Ekuadzi and Abraham Sackey.
Other persons, including women, however, managed to escape following an alarm raised by one of the members of the gang, about the presence of the police in the area. DSP Tay said the exercise formed part of the police operations to get rid of notorious criminals in the area whose activities pose danger to innocent people, especially, children.
He entreated residents of Ashaiman not to relent in furnishing the police with vital information on the clandestine activities of such criminals, assuring them that the police would act swiftly to clamp down on them. DSP Tay said Ali Zakari, Emmanuel Ekuadzi and Abraham Sackey would be processed for court after enough evidences have been gathered to nail them.
