Final-Year SHS Student Crushed To Death [PHOTO]

A 19-year-old candidate of the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Patience Gyamfuah Asiedu, has been crushed to death by a vehicle at Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the General Arts student of the Suhum Islamic Girls’ SHS in the Eastern Region died on the spot when a speeding Kia minibus with registration number GR 4087-13, from Nsawam and heading towards Suhum, knocked her down at about 8pm on Monday.

The Suhum Municipal Police Commander, Supt. Muchiraru Yahaya, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that the student was crossing the Accra-Kumasi highway – which passes in front of her school – to receive a calculator and food from her boyfriend. Initial report said she was collecting a mobile phone from the supposed lover.

“The boyfriend said he called the girl to meet her to take food and calculator, and so the girl sneaked through a bush at the back of the school dormitory block. She was on phone talking so she didn’t see the car heading towards her direction, which knocked her down,” the police chief hinted.

He added, “Immediately the incident happened, there were some military officers at the scene who quickly rushed Patience to the hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Her remains have been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital, while the driver, identified as Yaw, has been arrested and currently cooling off in police custody.

Superintendent Muchiraru added that the police had also interrogated the student’s boyfriend and began investigation into the incident.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted the Suhum Islamic Girls’ SHS headmistress, Madam Sharafutu, she said her outfit couldn’t comment on the matter since the police were investigating the matter.

The deceased’s mother, the school authorities, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Margaret Ansei and some elders in the town on Tuesday met over the death to find the way forward.
