It's A Waste Of Time For Any Party To Discuss EC's Logo! - Gen. Mosquito

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says his party would not in any way waste it’s time to be concerned about the affairs of the Electoral Commission(EC) when it has a lot to do to retain power come 7th November.

“My party has no time to discuss issues or debate about EC’s logo; it is a waste of time for a political party to do that.”

In an interview with OKAY FM, he said “I am saying this because the main relationship between a political party and the EC is for the political party to serve as a check on the commission - making sure all it does with respect to elections are free and fair.”

He added that until the EC associates itself with a particular political party’s logo, the NDC would never waste its time on such a debate when there are more important things to do.

“…others who are complaining that the new logo was not discussed or shown at the just ended Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting should bear in mind that activities of the EC are in two folds. Therefore IPAC has no role with respect to the commission’s logo selection,” he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme.

Asiedu Nketiah further explained that activities of the EC are in two folds; running the commission as an organization, an aspect which includes administrative duties of the commission, and political parties have no say in this phase of the EC’s decision making.

However, the other side is where political parties are involved in decision making because it constitutes refereeing free and fair elections including issues that has to do with human interest.

“Infact EC’s logo cannot determine a party’s chance of winning elections, this is not a matter that needs to be talked about at all, or even given attention to when the nation has important pressing issues at hand.”

He urged political parties who do not side with decisions taken by the EC to come out boldly and confidently with their own decisions on what exactly they want the EC to do especially members of the opposition party NPP, than beating about the bush championing unnecessary courses.

“IPAC as I always say helps the opposition party because is not like parliament where the majority has the upper hand on decision making, here issues raised and decisions taken by political parties and stakeholders are all treated equal and with due respect,” he added.
