Some youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Korley Klottey constituency and outside it have expressed shock over what they described as the unguarded statements by the General Secretary of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Asiedu Nketia’s remarks that Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings did no wrong in contesting the party’s parliamentary primaries held last year November suggests that he does not have regard for both the constitutions of the party and country, according to them.
The party’s scribe is also reported to have asked the incumbent MP to face him if he thinks he has a problem.
A member of the NDC from the Odododioo constituency asked, “Is Asiedu Nketia the all-in- all of the NDC party? Is the vetting decision for an NDC candidate his sole prerogative? Is he now the sole voice of the NDC party? This is ridiculous. It is clear he has stayed at post for too long and needs to go for a well-deserved rest. I have always admired him but now he is muddying his reputation. Indeed, I was extremely shocked when I heard he said that and refused to believe until I read the publications on it.’
One of the aggrieved party loyalists in the Klottey Korle constituency, a certain Siaisa, told the media that “what Asiedu Nketia said on air is not right because it means he alone took the decision. But he did not sit in the vetting alone, there were about four or five persons in the vetting committee so did he influence them or tell them to keep quiet?’
He was of the opinion that “the NDC constitution says before you contest the primaries you must be a registered voter. And the EC says she is not a registered voter. Is General Mosquito now the king of NDC? Did he vote in Klottey Korle? If he did the wrong thing, then he should please go and tell the court that he did the wrong thing but because he is the king of NDC he can do anything he wants. Zanetor’s own father says we should not be corrupt, lie and cheat. So he should talk to his daughter and let her do the right thing.”
MP for Klottey Korle, Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey said, “I don’t believe Asiedu Nketia would say that. Why would he say I should come and face him? It cannot be true because I have already faced him. The NDC is the first defendant in the case in court. Ms Rawlings is the second defendant. So I don’t know how he would want me to face him.
Surely, he does not want a violent or physical confrontation because this is not the NPP party. I am a law-abiding citizen and I do not choose physical or violent confrontations over legal confrontation.
