NPP Dazzled By 'Accounting To The People' Tour Endorsements Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the governing NDC, Koku Anyidoho says endorsements of the positive impact of major projects undertaken by the Mahama Administration is sending shivers down the spine of NPP Flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo even before the President begins his official campaign towards the 2016 elections.

According to Koku Anyidoho, the twice defeated 72-year old NPP candidate has no campaign message and their tactics to frustrate the Electoral Commission to buy time to address crisis in his own party is failing. The NPP, according to him, is therefore crying foul over a legitimate function of the President.

The outspoken deputy NDC Chief Scribe was speaking on Accra based Radio Gold’s 60-minutes, a political talk show on Tuesday morning.

Campaign Manager of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu has described the tour as an abuse of incumbency but Mr Anyidoho described his comments as funny and a sign of a desperate fragmented party looking for something to hang on.

It’s exciting because they allow us to occupy the media space to tell the good story of our flagbearer. I am happy Mac Manu will discuss President John Mahama rather than his listless flagbearer Akufo Addo who has no message, who has no campaign story to tell and is sitting down there trying to use terror tactics to win the elections”…Koku told host of the programme, Samuel Eshun.

He went on further “It’s because he is doing something that is hurting them. The President is working. In the past the story was that the President was doing nothing, nothing was happening across the length and breadth of this country. And of course those days because of the darkness, “dumsor”, it was highly impossible to convince Ghanaians that many things were going on in this country. …You don’t have light so even if you put documentaries on TV who will watch it? ..Today thanks to God, the power situation has stabilized and so suddenly the President is working and Ghanaians are now following the development agenda, the transformation that is going on.

The NDC General Secretary said the Eastern region tour and the massive endorsements has blown Mr Mac Manu and the elephant fraternity apart. Especially the comments coming from the Kwahumanhene.

Mr. Anyidoho paraphrased what Nana Asiedu Agyeman III, Acting Paramount Chief of Kwahu who declined to withdraw his endorsement said in separate radio interviews on Monday.

I am a Chief. Every Chief wants development for his area, for their people to enjoy. So if as Chief of Kwahuman and for the first time we are getting a government hospital since Independence, under the leadership of President Mahama. I will thank him for it, because the facilities in the area belong to the Catholic or the Presbyterian Churches. So far the Eastern region has three community day SHS, a Public University with satellite campus in the Kwahu area, I will thank him for it,” Nana Asiedu Agyeman III reportedly said.

Nana Addo Did Worse

Mr. Anyidoho referred to Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign during the 2008 elections and how he exploited state machinery when he was not an elected President.

When they prevented people like Kwesi Pratt from appearing on GTV programmes, stopped NDC from appearing on Radio Ghana programmes, state media like Graphic and Times will not cover pro-NDC events that is what we call abuse of incumbency. President Mahama is not frustrating Nana Akufo Addo. He is not frustrating Bawumia who is moving from one institution to the other telling lies with all those figures meaning nothing ….., that’s why Bawumia can claim he has in his possession a register from Togo and that within three weeks he will produce the ones from Cote D’Iviore, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali and up to date he has not produced them,” He argued.

He added, ‘Then in 2008 when Peter Mac Manu was the NPP National Chairman, we all saw what happened in this country. The heavy military escort, the sirens, the motorcades, the heavy police escort…He was using state resources to fly to Benin, Cote D’Iviore and to Burkina Faso to go and meet the Presidents of those Republic and creates the impression that he is already the President of Ghana. That is what we call abuse of incumbency

Mr Anyidoho noted that then candidate Mills was a former Vice President and Nana Akufo Addo was a Foreign Minister who had resigned yet the state at that time gave him all the security and neglected late Professor Atta Mills. He teased that Nana enjoyed his Presidency at that time and will never become President again because he scared Ghanaians who saw the flamboyance at that time.

And as Koku put it, he is walking into another defeat in 2016.

He told Radio Gold’s Samuel Eshun, ‘As a political party, he is opening up. People are seeing what’s going on, people are following him, people can touch and feel the real development that is dogging on. The next thing is the stability of the economy and more jobs will be created and people can feel it in their pocket.

Mr. Anyidoho also condemned what he described as NPP’s back door tactics to disenfranchise NDC supporters in the Ashanti region after failing to mislead and incite Ghanaians to demand Validation of the voters register. He disclosed that IPAC after NPPs false claims has decided to compel all members to signed agreements reached in subsequent meetings to ensure they do not use lies to throw this country into chaos.

‘Let’s create confusion so that the elections cannot be held at all. Then the international community comes in. All they are looking for power sharing, that is why they are this,’ Koku added.

On security he dared the NPP to try anything silly and they will be dealt with swiftly. He referred to the assassination attempts on Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the dumping of dead bodies who were never identified in 2001, what he described as the fear tactics they used.

The NDC General Secretary affirmed that President John Mahama will win the election and the NDC will not give way to any attempt to sabotage Ghana’s democratic dispensation.
