Police Seize Large Quantity Of Stolen Treated Nets

The Police in Kumasi had seized large quantity of suspected stolen insecticide treated nets (ITN) belonging to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and detained one man - a Burkinabee.

The nets are part of a consignment meant for free distribution to households to aid the fight against malaria.

Police Superitendent Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, the Zongo 'B' District Commander told a media briefing that the ITNs had been hidden in an apartment at Sabon -Zongo and that they acted upon a tip-off.

He said 3,250 pieces of the treated nets were found with 35-year old Sidibe Hussein and he was arrested.

Preliminary investigations by the police show that these were to be smuggled to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Supt Adane-Ameyaw said they had mounted a search for one Alhaji Sana, another Burkinabee, believed to be the key suspect.

He vowed to do everything to get to the bottom of the matter and to bring to justice anybody found to be connected to the crime.
