Religious leaders have been asked to play frontline role in efforts at preventing political violence as the nation readied to go to the polls in November.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, said they should use their tremendous influence in the society to help everybody to reject violence.
He was speaking at a meeting held with Imams and Pastors in Kumasi to discuss ways of making the upcoming limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) incident free in the Region.
DCOP Boakye who heads the Regional Election Security Task Force said the Churches and Mosques should be used to help the people to have a better understanding of the registration process and how to legally block unqualified voters from getting their names on the voters' roll.
He said it was important for all to get right with the law to remove needless tension and confusion.
Ustaz Sheikh Harun Abdul Mumin, the Regional Chief Imam, underlined the need to preach forgiveness and tolerance.
That, he said was the way forward to keep the society on the path of enduring peace, progress and properity.
