The Upper West Regional (UWR) Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Adams Mengu Issahaq, has assured President John Dramani Mahama of 79 per cent of the total votes cast by the people in the region during the forthcoming presidential election.
As for the parliamentary election, he said, the NDC would sweep all the seats in the 11 constituencies in the region.
Mr Issahaq gave this assurance in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Wa last Tuesday. He said infrastructural projects and social amenities springing up in the region were making life comfortable for the people.
Apart from that, “looking at the votes cast, the figures have always been on the increase from 57 per cent since 2004 to 65 per cent in 2012,” he stated.
Project
According to the regional organiser, the projects cut across all the various facets of life, including health facilities and improved educational accessibility with the construction of six community day senior high schools (SHSs) across the region.
He said the Wa water supply expansion project under construction to provide potable water from the source of the Black Volta River at Jambusi to the Wa township and its environs was steadily progressing.
The project being executed by the Kolon-Pyunghwa Consortium of South Korea at the cost of $51,591.150 had the capacity to provide 3.3 gallons of water daily to solve the perennial water problem. The people, however, use underground water which is treated and supplied by the Ghana Water Company Ltd. To complement the project, the various outlining communities had been provided with 2,500 mechanised boreholes.
Congestion
Mr Issahaq said a new central market and lorry station for the Wa township were also being constructed to ease congestion in the middle of the town on the Dorimon road while the affordable housing project which was at a standstill had been revived to provide decent accommodation in Wa. He said travelling by road in the region was no more a headache due to the construction of many roads to link the regional capital, Wa, to alleviate rural poverty. That, he said, included the ongoing works on the Wa- Lawra- Hamile, Tumu-Navrongo among other routes. Many more had been improved, yet there were many more to be done. He commended the traditional authorities and the people for the peace that is prevailing in the region, which has facilitated the development of the region and further called on them to come out and vote massively for President Mahama to enable him to complete his good governance of changing lives and transforming the nation.
“His good governance includes transparent administration, participation of the people and civil society in the decision-making process, rule of law and respect for the fundamental of rights of citizens,” he added.
