More Tension In Klottey Korle As Supporters Of Zanetor And Ashietey Clash Again (PHOTOS)

Tension has escalated among supporters of both incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashietey and embattled parliamentary candidate – elect for Klottey Korle constituency Dr. Zanetor Agyeman – Rawlings in on-going attempts to resolve issues of parliamentary election disputes in that constituency.

In an open forum held Sunday at the residence of the greater Accra  regional minister at Ridge in Accra and attended by Mrs. Mould Iddrisu, national vice chairman, Ade Coker, greater Accra regional NDC chairman as well as other national, regional and constituency executives, supporters of both Zanetor and Nii Armah Ashietey openly attacked each other verbally in uncontrollable fashion.

Some of the NDC members also attacked the national executives, questioning the relevance of the outreach program, saying it was coming a little too late in the day, while others condemned the national executives for being selfish and corrupt which has led to the current problems within the NDC in the constituency.

Both Nii Armah Ashietey and Zanetor Rawlings were present at the meeting but did not make any attempts to control their supporters. An obviously dejected Zanetor Rawlings sat quietly throughout the rancorous proceedings whiles some constituents accused her of bringing confusion to the party by breaking the party rules to contest in the NDC parliamentary primaries last November without her name in the voter’s register.

‘We don’t know the essence of this program here and what it will achieve. People here are jobless. We need Jobs not outreach programs. Our party has been disunited by the bad deeds of our national executives. We don’t need you people to come and worsen our plight and President Mahama should know this’, George, a vocal constituent charged as the NDC NEC members looked on.

A similar meeting was called off two weeks ago by the vice President Amissah Arthur at the Globe cinema in Adabraka due to disagreement among party supporters who protested the presence of campaign paraphernalia of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings whiles her election is being contested in court. Today however, no candidate posters and banners were allowed at the venue of the meeting which ended without any consensus.

Zanetor Rawlings, first daughter of the founder of NDC, JJ Rawlings, contested the Klottey Korle NDC parliamentary primaries last year and has since been battling a court case challenging her qualification to have contested the election.

After two attempts to have the case thrown out of the High Court failed, she has referred the case to the Supreme Court to quash the ruling of the High Court. The supreme court is expected to hear her case on April 26 2016.
