The Nungua District Police have apprehended two paddies for extorting various sums of money from final year students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
The suspects, identified as Wilfred Danso, 30, a photographer, and Edem Fiadonu, a 32-year-old businessman, according to the police, told the students to pay the money in order to pass their final examination.
“The students were asked to sow seed in the form of money in exchange for prayers in order to pass their final examinations, while others were told to pay money for them to buy Bibles for the poor in society.”
The suspects, according to the information, visited three schools including the Nungua Senior High School, Osu Presec and Labone Senior High School, before they were apprehended.
The two were provisionally charged for extorting and were being prepared for court.
Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Spokeswoman, said the two suspects managed to collect monies to the tune of about GH¢3,200 from the students.
The two suspects sneaked into the various Senior High Schools to talk to the final year students.
They gathered the students at a place and while pretending to be preaching to them, they then asked them to sow seed with money in order to pass their exams.
Some of the students were also made to pay money to them so that they would produce free bibles for the poor and needy in society.
On April 16, 2016 the suspects visited the Nungua SHS to do same when police received information about their activities and apprehended them.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they had been operating for the past three months and that they only visited three schools.
“This is the new trend of the fraudsters and we would entreat all to be careful and not fall victim to their activities,” police cautioned.
