Wa Poly's Internal Wrangling Is Affecting Development - TEIN

The Wa Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) has said the internal wrangling among authorities of the institution is affecting their growth and progress.

It, therefore, called on the authorities of the Polytechnic to resolve their internal wrangling and settle the court case to pave way for the institution to grow.

TEIN said the protracted internal wrangling that resulted in the court case impacted negatively on the institution’s chances during the assessment of Polytechnics towards conversion into technical universities.

Master Issahaku Karifa Salim, Wa Poly TEIN President who made the appeal during a press conference, said due to the internal wrangling, the Polytechnic performed abysmally in all areas of the assessment criteria.

He said the Polytechnic scored zero in the area of governance and very low grades in the area of academic readiness and infrastructure, thereby, disqualifying it from being selected for the conversion process.

In the area of infrastructure, the Wa Poly TEIN President alleged that government has taken a number of initiatives in providing the institution with the needed infrastructure to enable it meet the committee requirement for the upgrading.

Master Salifu said the Polytechnic Act (Act 745) and Act 1992 (PNDCL) which granted autonomy to all Polytechnics in the country has not been well utilised to govern the affairs of the institution.

“Due to the internal wrangling most projects have come to a halt, for instance the school library complex has been completed for over two years now but had not been commissioned because the school lacks stable governance”, he said.

The Wa Poly TEIN President appealed to the President to set up a committee to look into the polytechnic’s concerns to help resolve them.
