Gabby Otchere-Darko Joins Calls For A Sports Stadium In The Volta Region

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has joined a social media campaign on Twitter calling for a construction of a sports stadium in the Volta region.

A group of young people, mostly from the Volta region, started the campaign called #VoltaNeedsAStadium to coerce government into constructing a sports arena in the region.

Mr Otchere-Darko Tuesday April 26 joined the campaign and tweeted: “I support the campaign. In fact, Volta needs jobs, roads, water & all that the region deserves. Volta, not Voter Region.”

The only sports stadium in the region, constructed in 1957 at Ho, has not seen any form of rehabilitation. It is in a dilapidated state.

Authorities closed down the facility, which had been turned into a place of convenience, for renovation works, but the exercise is moving at a very slow pace.

The latest stadium to be constructed in the country is the 15,000 Cape Coast stadium scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday May 3, but the people of the Volta region have mounted pressure on government to give them their own sports stadium.

If constructed, it will bring the number of stadia in the country to six, adding to those in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Sekondi and Cape Coast.
