Ursula Owusu: If I Were Dzifa Attivor...

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West says former Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor has lost her respect for whipping up ethnocentric sentiments on a campaign platform in the Volta region.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said, the former Minister who is a student of Conflict Resolution at Kofi Annan Peace Keeping and Training Centre should know the dire consequences of the shameful comment ahead of a crucial election in November.

Madam Dzifa Attivor has come under a barrage of attacks after her claim that the NPP will jail Ewes when they come to power went viral.

Addressing party member in her party’s stronghold, the Volta region, she called on the grassroots to reject the NPP because the party prosecuted only members her ethnic group, Ewes, during its 8-year hold on power.

Citing people like Dan Abodakpi and Victor Serlomey who were jailed by the erstwhile Kufuor administration with Nana Akufo-Addo as Attorney General, Ms. Attivor Dzifa expressed fears that an NPP regime would continue where it left off by jailing the Volta regional front liners in the NDC.

But her comment has since been condemned by many including the Volta regional branch of NDC stating that such ethnocentric utterances it encouraged could plunge Ghana into chaos.

In support, Ursula Owusu on Asempa FM Wednesday expressed disappointment in Madam Attivor whom she described as a noble woman “who served as a role model for many of us”.

She indicated that, the reputation Dzifa Attivor built and the respect she earned when she resigned as the Transport Minister has all been lost due to the unfortunate comment.

Ursula Owusu called on the former Transport Minister to render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians to put matters to rest. “If I were Dzifa Attivor, I will run to the nearest radio station and apologize to Ghanaians the very moment the situation went viral,” she added.

Also, second vice chairperson of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) Belinda said the comment of the former Transport Minister is in bad taste, it should give the police a lead.

She could not fathom why Dzifa Attivor is certain she would be jailed by the NPP when she has not done anything criminal.

“I suggest the police arrest Dzifa Attivor and conduct investigations into her claims and if found culpable prosecuted” Belinda Bulley stressed.
