Zanetors Voters ID Can't Validate Her Candidature - Lawyer

Lawyer for Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Garry Nimako has said Dr. Zanetor Rawlings' acquisition of a voter’s ID card cannot validate her candidature.

He explained that, she being a registered voter won’t take retrospective effect on the case seeking to annul her election as the parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Klottey Korle constituency in the Greater Accra region.

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has registered for the first time in the Electoral Commission (EC)’s limited registration exercise which commenced Thursday, April 28.

She is under intense pressure following a suit filed by the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Nii Armah Ashitey, contesting her eligibility to represent the area in Parliament.

The incumbent MP lost massively to Zanetor Rawlings in the party’s parliamentary primaries last year, but insisted on suing the daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings for not being a registered voter.

The case is still before the Accra High Court and Dr. Zanetor will be a registered voter when the case is called. But lawyer for the plaintiff, Garry Nimako in an interview with Adom News maintained that Dr. Zanetor’s registration will not affect their case.

He said the defendant flouted NDC’s article 43 clause 9 of the rules and regulations governing the primaries held November last year.

Garry Nimako added that “what she [Zanetor] has done is commendable but it can only take prospective effective”.

Meanwhile, defense lawyer, Godwin Tamakloe said though his client is now a registered voter, he will leave the rest for the court to decide.
