Despite complaints from residents of Kwahu, the Eastern Regional Police Command has said it has successfully flushed out the violent Fulani herdsmen allegedly fomenting trouble in the area.

This follows an ultimatum from residents of Kwahu demanding that government and their chiefs evict all Fulani herdsmen from the area.

Fulanis in some parts of the country especially Agogo in the Ashanti Region and Afram Plain, have been accused of formenting trouble.

Residents in those towns have complained that the Fulanis and their cattle have been destroying their crops and farmlands and have subsequently asked government to evict them or face their wrath.

Speaking to Citi News earlier this week, Assembly Member for the New Owurobong electoral area in the Kwahu South District, contended that the Fulanis are harassing their farmers and destroying their lands.

But in an interview with Citi News, the Acting Eastern Regional Police Commander, James Azumah Abass, said the problem has been tackled.

“As far as REGSEC [Regional Security Council] of the Eastern Region is concerned, the problem has considerably reduced. From our experience, we realized that they come in between October and stay in until April or May when the rains set in”.

He added that their strategy for next year and the subsequent years, would be to meet them at the border around November to prevent them from coming in.
