Stop Clamouring For Power If Ghana Is Broke- PPP Chairman Tells NPP & NDC

The National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nii Allotey Brew Hammond has questioned why the two leading political Parties, NPP and NDC are ‘killing’ for power if the country is soaked in debt with no money as they claim.

In an interview granted him on the Africa Live Show on BTA/FTV, Mr. Brew Hammond condemned the assertion that government is broke.

He dared the two political parties that if government is indeed broke then both parties should give up power so competent leaders can take over and build Ghana again.

"Over the period of 24 years, the two political parties that have bubbled to the top are wrestling for power only because the constitution gives power to only one person, which is not good for the country.

“If you look at the advanced countries, all of the power is not vested in one individual, it is spread so that at the local level the people can make decisions,” he said.

’’Out of the 216 districts that we have, if they are elected, there will be a PPP mayor, NDC mayor, NPP mayor and everyone will have some piece of the pie to be able to ascend to the one position of the seat of the flag staff house."

According to him since the Progressive People's Party (PPP) came into existence they have been clear about the problems in the 1992 constitution which is giving all the power to the Executive

“This is creating most of the problems we have today,” he added.

The Chairman of the PPP, on the Africa Live Show, declared that a PPP government will decentralise power to enable ordinary Ghanaians play a role in governance.

He said because too much power has been given the President, the ordinary Ghanaian is forced to accept anything imposed by governments. He emphasized that Ghana’s weakness is caused by the 1992 constitution.

He added that upon hearing several complaints by both the ruling NDC and opposition NPP, it is obvious Ghana needs an able leader to generate revenue for the country.

“If you hear that there is no money, then why are they struggling to go into the position where there is no money? I do not want Ghanaians to believe there is no money; there is money that is why they are fighting tooth and nail to get in there,” he said.
