A taxi driver, Emmanuel Neequaye Kotei, is before an Accra Magistrate’s Court for hitting another driver, Ishmael Armah, with his car and causing his death. Kotei was charged with murder when he appeared before the court but his plea was not taken.
The court, presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh, remanded him in police custody while awaiting the AG’s advice.
The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah are that Kotei is a taxi driver who resides at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra. According to the prosecutor, on September 5, 2013 at 8.00 p.m., Kotei called his wife several times but there was no answer, so he drove his car to Dansoman, where his wife, Regina Tetteh sells kenkey.
On reaching there, Kotei saw Armah talking to his wife. Kotei accused Regina of engaging in extra-marital affairs, which led to an argument. Kotei threatened to kill Armah in the course of the argument, after which he entered his taxi and drove off.
According to C/Inspector Yeboah, after a few minutes, Kotei returned, used his car to hit Armah at the Dansoman Market and sped off.
Witnesses chased Kotei and was apprehended and was handed over to the police.
Armah was taken to the hospital where he died later.
