Climate Change Remains A Global Menace... - Mahama Ayariga

The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mahama Ayariga, has called on Ghanaians to wage war against climate change.

He said the phenomenon of climate change and its devastating repercussions have become a global concern and so wants the nation to take measures towards the phenomenon.

Addressing participants at a day's sensitization workshop on the Paris Agreement on Climate Change held in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region, Mahama Ayariga called on the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and other stakeholders to check climate change.

It can be recalled about 190 Heads of states in some countries including Ghana met in France's capital city, Paris, last year to deliberate on how to collaboratively tackle the menace.

According to Mr. Ayariga, each country was tasked with the responsibility to pursue a coordinated domestic policy to subdue the issue of climate change.

This he believed will help build a resilient climate economy.

Emphasizing the need for collaborative effort, he warned against activities such as bush burning, deforestation, illegal mining.

"Reducing climate change to an appreciable level needs concerted efforts by all. We all know the human related activities that ignite climate change and global warming, so we should task ourselves to desist practicing such activities", he implored.

"The Paris Climate Change Agreement has asked membership countries to work hard in accomplishing its aim of ending climate change by 2030", he added.

He pledged government’s commitment to accomplishing such purpose.
