A taxi driver, Kojo Antwi, who bit two policemen to avoid being arrested, is before an Accra Magistrate Court.
Antwi was charged for possessing ammunition without lawful custody by the court, presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh. His plea was not taken and was remanded in police custody pending advice from the Attorney General.
Presenting the facts of the case to the court, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah, said on January 9, 2016, the regional police commander in Accra received information that Antwi was spotted at Mamprobi wielding a foreign pistol.
The prosecutor said Antwi was soliciting for other people to join him to commit crime.
Upon receiving the information, Mr Yeboah said a team of police officers was dispatched from the regional CID to Mamprobi, where Antwi was arrested.
According to the prosecutor, a foreign pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was found hidden in sand in his room.
He said while Antwi was being arrested, he bit the two arresting officers, one on the left palm and the other on the right toes and managed to escape.
Chief Inspector Yeboah said Antwi was however, chased and re-arrested after the police went for re-enforcement from the Mamprobi Police.
In his caution statement, he denied butownership of the arms, admitted struggling with the police to escape.
