Comedian-actor, Abraham Kofi Essuman Davis aka Salinko is the last person anyone would consider or tip for the presidency, but the actor says he will become the president of Ghana one day. “I know Ghanaians would think I am joking but I am very serious about becoming the president of the country one day. Although I make many people laugh through my movies, I am very intelligent and capable of ruling the country some time to come” he told Showbiz in an interview last Monday.
According to Salinko, who is currently the Parliamentary candidate for Atwima Kwawoma constituency on the ticket of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), he is gradually working towards his dream.
“Every journey starts with a step and I believe once I have been able to announce my presence as a Parliamentary candidate, I know I can work my way out in becoming the president in some years to come,” he said.
To Salinko, it will be wrong for anyone to judge him based on the fact that he is a comedian and cannot take the highest position of the land.
“Why do you think the flag bearer for PPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, came for me to be in his team? He knows I have what it takes to rule the country in some years and it’s about time Ghanaians also start believing in me,” he said.
Talking about the plans he has for the country if given the nod, Salinko said, “I have a lot of plans for the country if I become the president. First of all, I will tackle employment and secondly, deal with inflation. With my team, we will solve the major and minor problems the country is facing,” he said.
Known for movies such as The Mask, Me Judge Akasa and Ghana Police, Salinko said he would be going to the Kumasi Prisons on May 26 to have lunch with the inmates.
Dubbed, “Let The Needy Smile,” Salinko said he was grateful to Nestle Ghana Tea Association, Nestag, Darko Farms, Akata Farms, Uncle Benze Bread and Sanaqua Drinking water for supporting him.
About how he got into movies, Salinko said he got the chance to act in Brenya where he did as many as 27 scenes. Salinko is full of gratitude to movie producer, Socrates Safo who made it possible for him to land that first movie role.
“Socrates was very good to me, he bought me good food that I couldn’t have afforded and even paid for hotel accommodation for me when I was in Accra. I am very grateful to him for sorting me out back in the day,” he said.
Born to Mr Essuman Kofi and the late Mary Ama Serwaa, Salinko is the fifth of seven children and comes from Duase Kenyase in the Ashanti Region. He is married with two children.
He attended Kings International School for his primary and Junior High School and continued to Kumasi High School and Faith Assemblies of God Senior High School.
Salinko encouraged up and coming actors to get good education. “Don’t be scared, be serious and bold but first get good education, “ he advised.
