CHRAJ Sacks Employee Over Missing Receipt Leaflets

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has sacked one of its staff members at its Begoro Office over missing receipt leaflets and also concealing a management letter from the Audit General on the matter.

Explaining reasons for the dismissal, acting Commissioner of CHRAJ, Richard Quayson told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that management was not aware of the letter until it got a letter from PAC.

Mr. Quayson stated that upon receipt of the PAC latter, further investigations revealed that he was not aware that removing the leaflets was an offence because he ought to have known.

He said the audit letter was sent to the District office at Begoro and the same officer “somehow managed to conceal the management letter so we were not aware until the issue came to our attention through the PAC letter.”

According to him, they have not been able to recover the receipt leaflets as directed by the Auditor General, but are working with the clients involved in the case to ascertain whether some payments have been made.

The Commissioner noted that they have put in place measures to review current practices involving receipts and payments in cases handled in “our offices, and put in place adequate controls to reduce opportunities for abuse.”

But, member of Parliament for Asunafo North, also PAC member, Robert Safo Mensah was not happy that after the termination of the said officer’s appointment no legal actions has been taken against the officer.
