Four alleged armed robbers remanded

Four persons, who allegedly shot a Forex bureau operator in the shoulder and bolted with GHC9,000 and foreign currencies, on Wednesday appeared before an a circuit court in Accra charged with conspiracy and robbery. The court did not take the pleas of Abubakari Haruna, Yusif Haruna, Mohammed Awal and Danlame Issah. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Annor told the court that on April 6, this year, at about 8:00 pm, Mr. Issah Oman, the complainant closed from work and went home by a taxi. Prosecution said on reaching the Forestry Commission offices near the Achimota Forest, the complainant�s taxi stop when the traffic light indicated red. ASP Annor said as soon as the taxi halted, four men armed with locally manufactured pistols and pump action gun attacked the complainant and the driver by firing through the right side of the taxi cab which hit Mr. Osman�s shoulder and the driver�s hand and the right door of the car was shattered. Prosecution said the armed men demanded from Mr. Osman the bag containing the money else he would be killed. ASP Annor who was bleeding profusely handed over the bag containing GHC9,000 cedis, 4,700 Euros, 10,475 Dollars and 5,500 pounds sterling to the armed men who fled in a car parked some few metres from the scene. Prosecution said on June 10 this year, at a drinking bar, a witness heard the accused persons discussing how they robbed the complainant at the Achimota Forest and shot him. A report was made to the police they were arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
