Workshop Reviews Poverty Reduction Strategy

The Special Parliamentary Committee on Poverty Reduction Strategy, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has organized a workshop to review the state of implementations of key findings and recommendations of the 2007 annual progress report of the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS) II. It also looked at the proposed financial resource allocation for 2010. Opening the five-day workshop, the chairman of the committee, Mr. Clement Kofi Kumado, said focus the committee was now on pro-poor policies, budgetary allocations, expenditures, programmes and projects associated with the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals and matters arising from GPRS II. The UNDP Country Director of Mr. K.K. Kamaludeen also said that democracy is about people and poverty reduction among the people in the society. He therefore urged the participants to take keen interest in the workshop and collectively work hard to provide support to the people in the country.
