27 Drug Dealers Busted

Policemen under the Baatasona Divisional Headquarters in Accra have arrested 27 men in the area suspected to be drug peddlers.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested at different hideouts around Okpoi, Gonno and Sakumono, suspected to have been used as cover for men of the underworld for different operations.

Some of the suspects were said to be engaging in illicit drugs and armed robbery, and had been terrorizing residents of Sakumono, Spintex Road and its environs.

Police recovered 150 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) and some substance believed to be cocaine, a compressed slab of suspected marijuana (wee), one cell phone and a box of seeds suspected to be those of Indian hemp.
Commenting on the arrest Chief Superintendent Baaba Adamu, Commander of the Baatsona Divisional Headquarters, told DAILY GUIDE that the suspects had been detained and assisting with investigations.

“The raid on the Baatsona hideouts is a continuation of the onslaught against criminals in all parts of the area in a bid to create a secure environment for prospective investors and to secure the lives and properties of residents,” he stated.

He further disclosed that his outfit would continue to raid suspected hideouts under his jurisdiction so that criminals would not have a place to hide.

According to him, several complaints were received from residents and business owners and that officers were deployed to comb the area, adding that “the result was the arrest of the 27 people.”

The police chief pointed out that the Police Administration is determined to rid the country of criminals and create an environment for peaceful co-existence among residents and business owners.

He maintained that the raid will not be limited to the aforementioned locations, stressing that “We are still going to ensure that every part of Baatsona is covered in the renewed fight against criminals and to ensure that there is no hiding place.”
