The Apam District Magistrate�s Court on Thursday sentenced a 29-year old mason from Assin Fosu to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing 13 fowls valued at GHC120.00.
Nathaniel Antwi pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Dziekpor, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe, that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Mensah, is a driver from Gomoa Ankamu.
He said Antwi currently resides at Gomoa Mprumen near Gomoa Ankamu in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.
Chief Inspector Dziekpor said around 0300 hours on September 27, this year, Antwi stopped an Accra bound vehicle at the outskirt of Gomoa Ankamu with the fowls in a basket.
The prosecution said the driver after picking the accused person became suspicious and drove to the Apam Police Station and handed Antwi over to them for interrogation.
Chief Inspector Dziekpor said after investigations it was established that the accused stole the fowls.
Antwi pleaded for forgiveness because it was his first time of stealing.
The court ordered that the birds which were brought to the court as exhibits, of which three were dead, be released to their owners who were at the court.
