Leave Me Out Of Avenor Chieftaincy Row Speaker

The Speaker of Parliament has bunked allegations linking him to a chieftaincy row in the Avenor Traditional Area in the Volta Region.

According to Edward Doe Adjaho, the allegation made against him by Torgbui Dorglo Anumah, Fiaga of the Avenor Traditional Area that he was illicitly behind the elevation of Torgbui Samlafo IV to paramount status in the area is without substance.

A statement issued on the Speaker’s behalf by Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Principal Assistant Clerk, Parliament of Ghana, indicated that Torgbui Anumah VI on Thursday, May 26 told journalists: “It is being alleged that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, is illicitly behind this elevation saga. We are amazed by this story and cannot believe it to be true as Avenor State is solidly behind him to rise to his present status, of which we are very proud of. It will be greatly appreciated if he would come out clean on this episode.”

But the Speaker finds this “allegation offensive, objectionable, false and without any merit. Throughout his distinguished public life, the Speaker has played absolutely no role – either privately or publicly – in deciding who gets enstooled or elevated as a chief anywhere in Ghana.”

The statement added: “The Speaker is asking the various sides to this matter to stop dragging his name and office into these chieftaincy matters. Instead, the various factions must use the due process of custom and tradition, as well as laid down processes to resolve their differences, if any.”
