Let's Create District Houses Of Chiefs - Chiefs

Osie Adza Tekpor VII, the President of the Congress of Paramount Chiefs and Queens of Ho-West District, has called for the creation of District Houses of Chiefs across the country.

He said that initiative would help address chieftaincy issues at that level and reduce the rising chieftaincy disputes.

Osie Adza Tekpor said this at the Fifth Anniversary Celebration of the Congress at Dzolokpuita.

He said District Houses of chiefs would promote closer ties among chiefs and give legal backing to their activities in the various assemblies.

Osie Tekpor said though the 1992 Constitution recognised the role of chiefs in the country, their presence was not being felt in the local assemblies due to the absence of District Houses of Chiefs.

He said District Houses of Chiefs would fill the vacuums created by the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.

Osie Tekpor said the Congress of Paramount Chiefs and Queens of Ho-West in the past five years filled that vacuum and ensured that peace prevailed in the District.

Mr Samuel Ewordey, the Ho West District Chief Executive, said the Congress was helping the Assembly in its development agenda.

He said eleven roads, including the Abutia-Juapong Road, were being done to open up the District to promote the tourism potentials of the area.

Mr Ewordey said issues of potable water were also being addressed in the District with the construction of boreholes.

Mr Doe Adjaho, the Speaker of Parliament, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the chiefs for their ingenuity and urged them to remain united to develop the District.

Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Volta Regional Minister, urged the Congress to be politically neutral and to ensure that peace prevailed ahead of the November Polls and thereafter.

Madam Dzifa Attivor, a Former Minister of Transport, described the District as having the most beautiful waterfalls with the most densely forested areas and challenged the Congress to market those tourism potentials.

The Congress, made up of 16 paramountcies in the District, was established in 2010 to rally chiefs for peace and rapid socio-economic development of Ho West.
