Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah has asked authorities at the EC to stop playing a hide a seek game with the electoral systems, but rather do what is expected of them by adhering to the ruling of the Supreme Court.

According to him, he does not understand why the Electoral Commission is refusing to take instructions from the Supreme Court, claiming it’s against the laws binding the commission.

“One wonders who has been advising the EC legally, because a lay man who lays hand on the ruling by the Supreme Court instructing it to delete names of persons who registered with NHIS card can make some sense out of it. Therefore, it is unfortunate the EC and the NDC have a complete different interpretation or understanding about this saga,” he said.

He said It is a shame that the EC, which has not less than four (4) lawyers among its commissioners chose to interpret differently the rulinng to suit their personal interest.

“What Ghanaians are interested in now is a credible and an accurate register to elect a new President and not the waste of time from the EC,” he added.

Speaking to CITI FM news, he noted “It is a major concern to this nation that we have barely six (6) months to the elections, yet the register which is the primary document of the elections still have disputes and controversies that remains unresolved.”

In 2014, former National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako won a suit in which the Supreme Court unanimously granted a perpetual injunction restraining the Electoral Commission from using the National Health Insurance Card as an identity card for voter registrations.

The two were seeking true and proper interpretation of Article 42 of the Constitution in relation to the use of the NHIS card as a proof of qualification to register as a voter pursuant to Public Elections.

The SC subsequently ruled on May 5th that the names be deleted.
