Notorious Robber Gunned Down At Teshie

A notorious armed robber, who was said to have broken jail in 2005 when on detention at the Nungua Police Station, has been killed in a shootout at Teshie, Accra.

The deceased armed robber, identified as Alfred Kwesi Addo aka Kotozi, 42 years of age, was killed in  a gun battle with the police yesterday during an arrest at a hotel at Teshie where he had allegedly been hiding and planning his robbery activities for the past three months.

Items retrieved from him in his hotel room upon a search included a locally manufactured pistol, two big sledgehammers, substances suspected to be Indian hemp (wee), a bank withdrawal slip with face value of GH¢100.00 bearing the name Shaibu Issah, a mobile phone, credit cards – one bearing the name Mary Afia Pokua – and personal belongings.

The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital for preservation.

Briefing the media, ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Accra Regional Police Commander, said early yesterday morning police had a tip-off that a notorious armed robber who had been on the police wanted list since 2005 and had been the brain behind a series of robberies and thefts in Accra and its environs, was lodging in a hotel at Teshie and planning for another operation.

He said police swiftly moved to the said location and on their arrival, the suspect, who was about to leave the premises, spotted the police and tried to escape amidst firing.

The police returned fire and he was hit by a bullet and fell to the ground.

Police findings indicated that the deceased used different names such as Kwame Sarfo and Osei Kwesi to operate.
