June 3 Disaster Surviving Victims Tell Their Story (PHOTOS)

Some victims of the June 3rd Kwame Nkrumah Circle disaster which occurred last year have revealed that their close shave with death on that eventful Wednesday has drawn them more closer to the Almighty God.

According to the victims, their continuous survival despite the life threatening encounter has made them realize how the Supreme Being loves them and the need to serve him diligently.

Ghana was thrown into a state of mourning after a tragic flood and fire disaster which claimed the lives of over 152 people following an explosion. The Goil Filling Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra became the site of a cruel catastrophe after a gas explosion left charred remains of persons who had sought refuge from the floods in the area.

The unfortunate event left many survivors with psychological trauma by way of unpleasant memories, while physically some have had to live with very grave scars all over their bodies.

One year on, some of the survivors in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.5 FM said, their lives have been changed for the better, as they have turned on a new leaf.

“I lost my wife and my brother, but here I am sitting and talking to you. Allah has been good to me, as He’s given me another chance to reform. I’m a Muslim by birth but until now, the kind of life I lived was nothing to write home about. I have now decided to dedicate my entire life to Allah and allow him to let His will be done in my life,” Kassum Siraj said.

Nicholas Baidoo another victim who was also on the same show, said he’ll forever remain grateful to God for his goodness towards him.

“I vividly recall that day where I saw death coming my way, but God being on my side I managed to escape though I have scars all over my body, I’m still grateful to God. What he’s done for me beats my understanding. After the bandages had been removed from my face following four months of treating the sores on my body, I saw a different me, I realized I had been deformed by the burns. But I remain hopeful that God will do something great with my life. I can’t wait to wear my white clothes this Sunday, as I go to church to thank God one year after he sparred my life in that disaster,” Nicholas Baidoo, noted.

Meanwhile they have called on benevolent people to support them financially to enable them earn a living since they are unable to work as they used to before the disaster.
