The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), is yearning for the appointment of a substantive Director to enable it work effectively and efficiently to meet it constitutional mandate.
This appeal was made to the government by Mr. Eric Adu, the Sunyani Municipal Director of NCCE in an exclusive interview with The Herald in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Mr.Adu in his plea, explained that since the appointment of Madam Charlotte Osei, as the chairperson for the Electoral Commission, there has been a huge operational vacuum, even though he was aware about other deputies at the commission.
He further pointed out about the autonomous position of the commission, but was quick to admit that, there are huge financial hiccup confronting the commission in its operational activities in the country.
According to him, lack of resources, has rendered the commission incapable to reach out to the masses, especially in the remote areas for effective public education.
He believed that, before the NCCE, could perform effectively; it needs an extensive financial support.
The Director, illustrated some projects which has been adopted by the commission as the citizenship week to promote public education.
According to him, the commission on January 13, 2016, made public announcement about its intention to organize an intensive Presidential debate, which will be extended to the members of Parliament before the general elections. He, therefore urged all the political parties to embrace the political parties code of conduct to enable Ghana consolidate its peace.
He asked politicians to desist from preaching virtue and practicing vice.
Mr. Adu, observed that the works of the commission was delicate and difficult and asked Ghanaians to partner with them in delivering effective public education.
