Volta 4 Change Shakes Hohoe

The Hohoe municipality in the Volta Region came to a standstill when hundreds of young people undertook a health walk to express their dissatisfaction with the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
They walked through the principal streets of the municipality. The exercise was organised by a group called, ‘Volta 4 Change,’ otherwise referred to in Ewe as ‘Mi Dezɔ Na Tɔtrɔ.’

The walk, which started at the Atabu Park, was given a back-up by the ‘Agenda for Change’ and the ‘Disappointed NDC Youth in the Volta Region.’ A free health screaming was conducted for residents of Hohoe and the surrounding areas.

All activities in the busy commercial town of Hohoe halted as residents cheered them on while others just looked on in amazement.

Coincidentally, the NDC in the municipality was undertaking a similar health walk to commemorate the June 4th uprising. However, the patronage of the NDC’s exercise was so low that many people wondered whether it was not happening in the Volta Region – touted as the party’s ‘Work Bank’ in terms of electoral victory.
Speaking to the crowd after the walk at the Gbi Bla RC Park, the National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, encouraged the youth in the region in particular and the country in general not to be disappointed, but rest assured that “Change is coming.”

He said the insensitive policies of the governing NDC had rendered a lot of the youth jobless, collapsed businesses and deprived teachers and nurses of their allowances.

These, he assured, were going to be things of the past when the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, is elected to rule the country in the upcoming general election.

He urged them to go out and preach the good news of the NPP and entreat their friends and families to vote massively for the party in the November polls.
The President of Volta 4 Change, Eyram Doe, noted that the days when the youth in the region were used for disreputable activities by the NDC were over. He said the group was ready to go into the various homes and communities to educate the people on the deceits and incompetence of the NDC government.

He said comparing the track record of the NDC with the NPP’s in the region, it was evident that the latter had performed better, despite the fact that it (region) has been the stronghold of the former.

He said although the NPP has little support from the region, it had shown more commitment in terms of developmental projects, some of which Mr Doe mentioned as roads, expansion of the Ho Polytechnic, schools, health facilities and social interventions, among others.

The presidents of Disappointed NDC Youth, Robert Tetteyfio Adjase and Agenda 4 Change, Christo Wisdom, posited that they were ready to collaborate with Volta 4 Change to ensure victory for the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo.
