Robbers Attack Metro Mass Passengers

Unidentified gunmen suspected to be armed robbers reportedly attacked passengers on board a Metro Mass bus which was travelling from Tamale to Chereponi in the Northern Region.

The robbery occurred within two communities - Karinkuga and Mabonbori in the Chereponi District.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE revealed that the robbers shot at the windscreen of the bus as well as the right tyre, forcing the driver to stop the vehicle.

Passengers on board were robbed of their monies, mobile phones and valuables. The bus conductor was also not left out of the criminal operation.

A woman, whose name was not immediately known, was injured during the operation and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

The Chereponi District Chief Executive, Hajia Mary Nakobu, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE and said that she received a call from one of her staffs who travelled to Kumasi for a workshop that the bus on which he was travelling was being robbed; and after he had given her that  information, the phone went dead.

According to her, she tried reaching him back but to no avail and so she quickly called the police to inform them about the situation and by the time they (police) rushed to the scene be, the robbers had fled.

Ms Mary Nakobu stated that some of the passengers told her the robbers were holding sophisticated weapons and shot six times directly towards the driver’s seat.

Efforts were being made by the police to apprehend the robbers and have appealed to everybody to volunteer information to help arrest the robbers.
