Ngleshie-Amanfro Bortianor Schools Now Death Traps As MP Looks On

As the downpours become intense, the hopes of pupils in some basic schools within the Ngleshie- Amanfrom Bortianor constituency are shuttered as the structures that accommodate them as classrooms appear to be turned into a death trap that endangers their lives anytime they go to school.

This situation has become so, this paper learnt, because classrooms block projects which were commenced few years ago to hold the children in these schools by the MP for the area have been recklessly abandoned without reasons given to the various schools authorities.

The New Crusading GUIDE’s visit to these schools revealed that the pupils were kept and taught under poor learning environments and lacked infrastructural that were needful to enhance proper tuition teachers and studies by students and students.

The paper observed at the Galilea M/A 1 and 2 JHS, for instance, that pupils were packed in large numbers in the various classrooms without adequate facilities like desks and chairs to aid proper studies.

Our findings in the same school established that JHS three (3) pupils, who were preparing for their Basic Education Certificate Exams (BECE) were being taught under a shed-looking structure which unfortunately shared a wall with a structure that served as a public toilet, putting the health and lives of these innocent children at risk.

We gathered that teachers of the school also had a similar shed that served as their staff common room and was without any modern day technological facilities to help them in their research to teach the school children.

The paper found that when it rained the teachers and JHS three (3) pupils had to join pupils in the other classrooms for safety and comfort until the rains subsides.

“We have been in this for years and no attention has been given to the situation. All possible efforts by the school heads to curb the situation proved futile. During the day when the sun is high and the classrooms are hot, you can neither sit nor stand in there. All you see is the kids fanning themselves with their books as you teach and they practically lose focus on what you are teaching them because they are sweating a lot”, a teacher  hinted.

“When one of our teachers confronted the Member of Parliament of the Ngleshie-Amanfro Bortianor constituency, Hon. Bright K. Demordzi on the issue pertaining to the schools infrastructural development, he threatened her”, another teacher disclosed.

At the Korkrobite D/A School, the situation was no different from that of the Galilea M/A 1 and 2 JHS. The paper gathered that a classroom building project which was commenced under GET FUND in 2013 had been abandoned.

The paper observed that school children were put under partitioned sheds to study in large numbers under the various sheds.

Speaking to a teacher in the school, he noted that each time the rained the children were moved from the sheds to joins their seniors who were in no better classrooms, adding that teaching was brought to a halt until the rains stopped.

Stay tuned.
