Drivers Advised To Be Cautious As Rains Set In

The National Secretariat of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has appealed to commercial drivers to exercise caution on the roads especially as the rains are here.

The GPRTU also urged drivers to observe road traffic regulations to ensure safety on the roads and prevent loss of lives.

Mr Alexander K. Krah, the Deputy General Secretary in-charge of Operations of GPRTU, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

He reminded the drivers that the Ghana Meteorological Agency had predicted more rains which may cause flooding hence the need to exercise restraint and be alert as they drive.

“The rains could create hazy weather conditions that may affect visibility thereby increasing the risk for road traffic crashes,” he said.

Mr Krah advised the drivers to avoid using worn-out tyres which were major contributory factors to fatal accidents on the roads.

He called for collaborative efforts between the Union and stakeholders in the road sector to help minimise the carnage on the roads.
