West Africa Tennis Championship Set To Commence

The much anticipated Mcdan Open West Africa tennis championship will kick-start from June 27 and end on July 2, organizers have announced.

Originally, the tournament which has assumed international dimension was scheduled for April 25 to 30 at the Accra Stadium but was postponed.

According to the organizers, the postponement was due to some extended discussions with some supporting sponsors that were ready to partner the headline sponsors to make the event big.

It also had to take into consideration a ban on noise making in the Ga traditional area within which the Accra Sports Stadium in located.

With the new date, organizers of the event, McDan Shipping Company and the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) have announced supporting sponsorship deals from Rush Energy Drink and West Blue Consulting.

The McDan Open West Africa Tournament 2016 will attract players from Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire as well as Ghanaian players based in the US and UK.

With the new date, attention will be on how the champions of the previous editions performs against competitors from neighbouring countries considering the kind of opposition they have offered to Ghana in the past.

The first two editions opened to only Ghanaians were won by Jeff Bargabasseh and George Darko with Francisca Nyarko winning the ladies edition.
