3 Fraudsters Nabbed At Kaneshie

Three persons, including a woman, have been arrest by the Kaneshie police for allegedly swindling a senior high school leaver of an amount of GH¢900.00 and other valuables at the Kaneshie Market lorry park.

Vincentia Adjei, 27 years of age, the female unemployed, allegedly connived with Isaac Ankomah, 37, a  bar operator and Akwesi  Mabia  to defraud the victim after luring her to believe that they were gold dealers who wanted to exchange a bar of gold for money.

The suspects, according to police reports, have been using the same modus operandi to defraud unsuspecting people who are mostly travelers, for the past six months.

Akwesi Mabia, according to police reports, was arrested last year for committing the same offence but when he was charged for court, he was only fined and left off the hook.

The police said the suspects often approach their victims and tell them that they have gold and want someone who could exchange it for money.

The suspects will show a bar of some yellowish substance which looks like gold bar to further convince the prospective victim and after collecting the money, they escape.

The Kaneshie District Police Commander, Superintendent Francis Somian, told DAILY GUIDE that four persons had so far fallen victims to the activities of the suspected fraudsters.

On June 14, 2016, Mabia was said to have approached the school leaver (name withheld) at the Takoradi lorry park at Kaneshie for direction and through a conversation, he told her that he had a bar of gold which he wanted to exchange for money.

While still conversing with Mabia, the two others, including Vincentia, joined in the talks and even testified that the gold was genuine and that if the victim had money she could buy it and later resell it to gold dealers for a huge sum of money.

The victim was convinced and agreed to give the swindlers an amount of GH¢900.00 the following day for the gold and so they exchanged telephone numbers.

The following morning, they met the student at Kaneshie and the money was given to them together with her mobile phone and a bag for the gold to be put inside it.

After taking the money suspected criminals absconded and were never seen again until the victim reported the matter to the police.

They were arrested at Agbogbloshie by the police and would be sent again to court soon.
