Komenda Sugar Factory SHUTS DOWN

The Komenda Sugar Factory has shut down, few weeks after a ceremonial inauguration by President John Mahama.

Officials at the factory say the shutting down is due the lack of resources, chiefly, sugar cane its key driver. It is expected that normal operations at the 35 million dollars facility will return in October, by which time they should have found a workable solution around the current challenge.

While there are doubts over whether the factory may ever get to work, officials maintain sugar factories the world over do not operate all year round.

The ruling government has also hit back over suggestions the factory has propaganda written all over it, saying it formed a key part of its development agenda and couldn’t have been inaugurated for mere votes.
